Northbridge FC State Cup Results
Northbridge had 3 teams representing the KDSA in the Annual State Cup knock out competition. On a wet day at Bicentennial Oval all 3 teams played some great football despite the conditions. The Under12 boys outclassed the visitors from Figtree winning 4 - 0 [ click here for full match report ].
The Under15s were not so lucky, even though dominating the game for long periods and setting up numerous scoring chances the boys went down 2-1 to the Oatley RSL Club. The All Age Men recovered from an early goal against them to storm home 2-1 against a determined Hanwood FC from Griffith.
Sydney FC at Bales
Kofi Danning the exciting Sydney FC winger was at Bales Park on 22 May 2010. Kofi was happily signing autographs and talking with the kids in the wet and cold conditions at Bales. Kofi played 11 matches for Sydney last season scoring 3 goals before getting a season ending knee injury. He is back training and looking forward to the season opener against arch rivals Melbourne Victory on August 7. He has also made 19 appearances for the Australian U-20 team. Even though Kofi was born in Ghana he will be cheering for Australia when the two teams meet during the World Cup.

Martin Dickey Joins Northbridge FC Committee

Martin and Vanessa Dickey (photographer) with their four children Angus, Ella, Tom and Charlotte. With four children there was always going to be some involvement with the club. Angus is currently playing in the U8 Pirates and the dynamic duo Ella and Tom play in the U6 Pirates.
Much to Vanessa’s dismay Ella has given Ballet the flick for the greater thrill of scoring goals on a Saturday morning. Charlotte dressed in her NFC gear has started her Northbridge career being carried out at a recent Premier League game.
Being self employed at Genesis Taxation has provided flexibility in helping out with the coaching. Martin has now coached 5 junior teams U6-U8 and has taken on a more active role as the U6 coordinator in 2009 and 2010.
Our favourite restaurant is any restaurant that will take four kids but we have enjoyed our recent visits to Pizza Olla in Cammeray with only minor breakages.
Team Posters on show at Northbridge Plaza
Thanks to everyone who sent in their team shots for the new Plaza posters. The posters announce the biggest number of players ever registered at Northbridge FC. Current numbers are up around 1900 players, making Northbridge FC one of the biggest Clubs in Sydney.
Apologies to teams who were a little late with their photos, but we will look to add these shots to new posters throughout the year.
New season, new nets, same great results
The girls have kicked off Season 2010 pretty much the same way as they finished 2009. In the Junior Competitive Grades Northbridge lead the top Division in 3 of the 4 age groups. Pictured above are our Under12 A and Under 12 B teams just before they kicked off for their top of the table local derby.
Also note the new World Cup style goal posts and nets that have just been installed at Bicentennial Oval. The Club awarded a new ball to the first player to put one in the back of the new nets, seen here with Under12 A coach Neale Muston is first goal scorer Nikki Seroukas.
Action shot of the week, The Eagles
Northbridge FC is proud to give kids their first chance to play a team sport. Memories of those first under 6 games may get lost in a child's memory, but as a parent these are proud moments. Sometimes it's not our kids that score all the goals, sometimes they just perfect the art of the fresh air kick, sometimes they just dig holes, the main thing is they are out having a go, keeping us entertained every Saturday morning! One thing we can be sure of, is that somewhere out there, fighting for a kick in the under 6s, will be a new group of Socceroos and Matildas.
Northbridge Men just keep getting better!

State Cup results - Full Match Report
In conditions not particularly conducive to playing attractive football, the U13 cp team clicked into gear at Bicentennial Oval against a very strong Figtree team who had made the trip from Wollongong for the 9.30 am kick off. To the pleasure of those who braved the rain to support the boys, Northbridge started the game playing attacking football and producing a great display of first time passing and well executed interchanges and through balls. Alex Liebman , playing on the left wing, caused a few anxious moments for the Figtree team and a couple of his crosses placed pressure on the Figtree goalkeeper who dealt with them confidently.
Northbridge were clearly on top and playing their best football of the season and it seemed only a matter of time before the breakthrough was made. A free kick on the left for a dangerous tackle saw a fantastic ball placed into the box where it was met by a superb looping header from Josh Laws.
Josh continued to torment the opposition and a long range strike shortly thereafter almost saw the score line double. Well taken goals from Charlie Cox, after a noteworthy assist from Dom Vinson who chased a lost cause ball to dispossess a defender and send over a pinpoint cross, Alex Liebman and Dakotah Grace ensured that Northbridge went into the break 4-0 to the good. The second half started with Coach Joe Heywood bringing on fresh legs and to their credit Figtree raised their game considerably after enjoying very little possession in the first half. Notwithstanding their renewed efforts, Figtree were unable to penetrate the Northbridge defence.
Although Northbridge were unable to add to their first half goal tally, they continued to play attacking, attractive football and the defence stood firm against the away team’s attacks ensuring a clean sheet. Final score – an impressive 4-0 win to Joe’ s boys with the promise of plenty more to come this season.
