Over 35s into State Cup Final
Northbridge FC had 3 teams make it all the way through to the Quarter Finals of The State Cup , our Over 35s, Under12 Boys and the Premier League Men. The Under12s went down to Bonnyrig while our Premier League team found the Yoogali team from Griffith too good on the day.
The good news is our over 35 Men have continued all the way through to the Grand Final which will be Sunday July 18th. We wish them well.
Referee's Appreciation Day
7 years ago when Girl's football took off, the chances of getting a referee were very slim indeed. How things have changed, now if you didn't have a referee on a Sunday you can count yourself very unlucky.
To show our appreciation of the way referees are supporting the Women's game the Northbridge Girl's Coordinators decided to hold our first Referees Appreciation Day.
All we asked the girls to do was to approach the referee after the game and thank him or her personally. The gesture was obviously well received. The Club has a long term goal of having more of our girls and women taking up the refereeing.
Annual Golf Day and Dinner
Once again Peter Green and his cheery troop of Over 35s will be hosting The Annual Golf Day. This celebration of the round ball of a different nature will be coming up in September but now's a great chance to secure sponsorships of the holes and various other competitions.
The Golf Day will be one of the biggest social events on the Northbridge calendar so contact

Juniors get behind the Premier League
On the 15th of May a large contingent of Northbridge Juniors enjoyed the buzz of walking onto the field with The Premier League team. The kids knew many of the players through the recent school holiday skill camps and circuit training [Who needs Old Trafford when you can walk out onto Bicentennial Park]. The kids settled in to watch the big boys put together one of their best games of the season, winning 5 nil. The parents enjoyed the sun and a BBQ, what a great way to spend a Saturday afternoon. Look out for the next home games, July 10th and 24th.
Regular skills testing introduced
In 2010 the Club has introduced professional standard , scientifically based, skills-test-sessions.
At the moment we’ ve tested close to 150 kids from the age-groups U8-U18 (boys and girls) and the tests will go on. From now on we will test the kids twice a year – at the beginning and after the season.
Every tested player will get his test-results and the Best-Result (without a name) in this age-group. The coach will get the evaluated results from every player in his team.
The assessment consists of six stations:
* Speed
* Coordination
* Dribbling
* Ball Control
* Goal-Shooting
* Juggling
The sense of this test is to get an overview of the abilities of the kids. In 6 months (the 2nd test) they/we and the coaches can see, if they’ve improved (and how much) since the last time. We will evaluate the results after every test, so in the coming years we will have a chance to compare a lot of facts, of the different age-groups and individual players.
Spotlight on the Under 8s
U8 Teams
The majority of our U8 teams are formed from school friendship teams running around each week just happy to be part of their team and club.
Many of the teams this year are taking part in the Skills Acquisition Programme, and school holiday camps.
Some of the teams from Willoughby Public are the Pirates, the Thunderbirds and the Kewells in between the girls from the Roseville Rabbits. The majority of the players from these teams are in their third year with the club.
Thunderbirds
The U8 Thunderbirds had a great game on 19 June playing against the Northbridge Pirates. Both teams are made up of Willoughby Public kids and over the past 3 years they have played some hotly contested games with class mate against class mate. Not exactly the State of Origin but both teams put on a better show than the Blues.
The result this time went the Thunderbirds way 4-3 and their manager was seen doing victory laps around Thompson Park well into the night.
The Thunderbirds have kept essentially the same players, coach and manager from U6-U8 and have enjoyed a great comradery amongst the players and parents whilst representing Northbridge Football Club.
Rabbits
The Rabbits are a very happy girlie team. Even thought we haven't won a game yet this season the girls take it all in their stride and go out there every week and try their best. They have lots of fun and never give up and always come off the field with smiling faces.
Kewells
The Kewells played a hotly contested match on the 19th June against the Greenwich Anacondas.
With 10 minutes left in the game The Kewells found themselves 4-0 down with not a groin strain to be seen. But unlike their namesake at the World Cup, the team finished the game full of running to score 3 straights goals and just missed out on an equaliser.
After full time The Kewells could not stand!
Pirates
After watching "How to Tame a Dragon" the U8 Pirates happily feasted on the Chatswood Rangers Dragons on the 12th June.
After two weeks of rain the Pirates were unleashed on the Chatswood Dragons with a solid 5-0 win.
The Premier League team will be looking for a similar result with their forthcoming game against Chatswood Rangers.
